Hat's off to one of the most deserving Australian Government 'Prize for Science' award winner- CSIRO electrical engineer John O'Sullivan. (picture below)

Does his name ring a bell?

Perhaps not but it should, John O'Sullivan is the man that invented WiFi which as everybody knows gives millions of people around the world the ability to use wireless devices to transmit data.

And until recently many of the worlds biggest technology companies including Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Deli, Toshiba, Asus, Net-gear, Belkin, SMC, Accton, 3-Com and Buffalo, along with Microsoft and Nintendo were using this invention without paying royalties to the CSIRO (Australian Government Research Body).

But that all changed recently in an out of court settlement down-payment of  $220 million dollars for licensing this great Australian technology invention.

Yet the man who invented receives not one cent in royalties ! Incredible as it seems as John O'Sullivan was working for the Australian government research body The CSIRO and does not qualify for any royalties.

An amazing man  John O' Sullivan father of Wi Fi technology has never once complained his invention turned out to be one of technologies best money spinners and he receives no money.

The CSIRO is now using the $220 million court settlement to seed more research projects. And with more litigation slated against other big players free loading on the WiFi invention , expect the $220 million to increase significantly over the coming years. Which means more seeding capital for technology research - a very worthwhile undertaking by the CSIRO.

Let's hope a new batch of creative CSIRO inventors in the vain of the brilliant John O'Sullivan come up with more game changing technology inventions for the better of mankind.

Congratulation John O'Sullivan, everybody at Webtron salutes you!
