Domain Addresses Run Out- What does that mean to me?

The non-profit Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers
doled out its batches of "IP" numbers that identify destinations for digital traffic.
"A pool of more than four billion internet addresses has been emptied this morning," ICANN chief
Rod Beckstrom said at a Miami press conference.
"It is completely depleted. There are no more."
He brushed aside fears of modern life being devastated by an "IPocalypse,"iStock Symbols 3
saying Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) worldwide will be doling out
remaining addresses to support a shift to a bountiful new "IPv6" format.
"It is like running out of licence plates," said Internet
Architecture Board chairman Olaf Kolkman. "Driving on the road the next
day would not change."
Internet addresses run on a system called IPv4 and it was never imagined when this system was created the world would one day have the need for so many internet addresses. Every computer and now smart phones/iPads needs one.
What does this mean to me?
Well in the short term nothing- however we will be moving to a new system called IPv6 but as yet no devices run on this system. Google, Facebook, ISP's and others will be testing IPv6 for the first time on June 8 this year in a one day trial.
Expect some congestion ahead and expect some sort of investment in website development costs. And possibly equipment upgrades.
