The US election is over- Barack Obama’s win, heralds in a new era for new media marketing.

Ask yourself this question. In 2004 how many of us had ever heard of Barack Obama? Not very many outside his home state of Illinois.

Yet in 2008 Obama is set to move to the White House as President of the United States of America. How was this possible?

Some of you will remember Obama first graced the Webtron pages in 2007 when we examined some of the creative new media tactics employed at the time by Democratic candidates Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama.

We examined how both candidates had embraced new media and viral marketing to communicate inexpensively and quickly over the internet to voters.

It was obvious to us at Webtron we were witnessing a new beginning in electioneering.

The Democratic Party was connecting with Generation X, Y and everyone else online anytime, anywhere. And the public loved it, it captured our imagination.

If we ever needed hard evidence old media is not the only channel for any business to use here it is.

Let’s look at how he did it:

The UK’s Independent’s Andrew Keen best summed it up:

“The 2008 election was as equally determined by the popularity of traditional mainstream television clips broadcast on YouTube as it was by the work of influential professional journalist’s blogging for free on leading websites like HuffingtonPost. The truth is that old and new journalism have converged in America to form a hybrid media which has synthesized the new democratic interactivity of the Internet with the traditional curatorial habits of edited-from-above media.”

What does this mean to my business?

The great thing is every tool available to Obama is available to your business.
