Big Hit for Victoria's 1st Online Webcast Property Auction

Melbourne Monday 3rd , December 2007

When Alex Hill, Director of Webtron Online Auctions , told his mother he would do something to help her feel connected and be part of the auction of her Brunswick property while in Germany, he did not think he would make a business of it.

At midday on Saturday 1st December, hundreds of viewers across the nation and globally, including a delighted mum, logged in to see Steve Earl of Harrington Earl deliver a stellar performance to sell the property, interestingly well above reserve.

"I had the pleasure to be a part of Victoria's first online auction webcast" Earl said as he opened the auction. Earl is also looking forward to the final roll out of the product early next year, which will provide for on-line bidding to be incorporated into the webcast. Earl is positive about webcasting auctions for remote vendors and buyers.

The property was actually purchased by a Perth based investor, using the expert bidding skills of Melissa Opie from KPI Investments. Not being able to view the auction at the time it took place, the buyer was able to view the auction later that night online, in the privacy of her own home.

Opie is also Chairperson for the North Western Division of the REIV 2006-2007 and is enthusiastic about the benefits of webcasting auctions for buyers using advocates. Opie sees the webcast increasing information available to the buyer so they can make more informed decision (with their advocate) about the property and the auction, including crowd mood and bidding.
