History of Webtron

The seeds of Webtron were first planted when as a young boy Alex Hill watched the first Star Wars movie. A particular scene stuck in his mind where R2D2 projected a video hologram image to Luke Skywalker of a distressed Princess Leia.

Years later as Alex waited to appear on air in the Sky News television studios in London, UK that same image occurred to him. Followed by these questions:

  • Why was this same video concept not possible in the years that had past since this movie was made, he thought to himself?
  • As a matter of fact why is the Internet not like this?
  • We have far more technology available to us than George Lucas ever had at his disposal when he made that movie way back in 1977.
  • Why not make TV and Internet one?
  • Surely this will be a great tool for business?

When Alex Hill, the founder of Webtron, met fellow MBA student from Melbourne Business School (MBS), Chen Feng, they found that they shared the same vision for the future of the Internet. They saw the opportunity web 2.0 video applications would lead for advancement in Australian businesses.

Following a strategic plan to showcase the potential of the Web 2.0 interactive video technology, on 1st December 2007, Webtron pioneered Victoria Australia's first Online Webcast Real Estate Auction. The success of this event resulted in widespread public and media interest thereby acting as the perfect launching pad for Webtron.

On Jan 20th 2008, Webtron launched the ground breaking company's website based on video/virtual/flash interactive technology. Thus providing a working example for businesses to consider how these technologies will best serve their interests for all ongoing video production, streaming video, websites, webcast and Web 2.0 applications.
