New Wearable Technology Accessories

 Wearable Technology

New wearable technology accessories like Google Glass, new smart-watches or lifestyle wristbands are about to flood the market. Many of these groundbreaking wearable technology devices are now being designed. Wearable tech will be designed by traditional internet players such as Google and shortly Apple.

And it’s not just consumers, but also businesses who are watching this development closely. The app market for these wearable technology devices will be huge and businesses are already planning how they can interact with consumers using these devices.

Google Glass, a fashion accessory of the future:Wearable Technology & Google Glass

Cutting edge Google Glass app developers are already building the next generation of apps for these devices. Not a month seems to go by without discussion in the media about the pro’s and con’s Google Glass.

New questions remain as yet unanswered.

Will Google Glasses soon become a regular feature with users on any Australian city CBD footpath? Will the time come where everyday tasks such as using recipe cookbooks seems old hat? Is this process going to be replaced by Google Glass recipe apps? Is Google Glass going to revolutionise the way we interact, communicate and shop on the internet the same way iPhone did for smartphones back in 2008?

Wearable tech for the health industry

Google is certainly targeting the health industry with much potential for wearable technology. The Wall Street Journal recently reported a rise in venture capital into enterprise research and development for Google Glass apps.

One example cited in the article ‘Emergence Capital Sees Google Glass Enterprise Apps As Good Bet’ was:

Doctors can only spend around 70% to 80% of their time treating patients, and all the rest is entering data in electronic medical records. Data entry is eating up a huge percentage of their time, and it’s creating dissatisfaction. It’s also a huge cost to hospitals. Google Glass has shown to reduce data-entry time. A platform like this really can impact business. Some industries can really experience a very high return-on-investment. It’s really just a part of the bigger trend of mobile tech.

Wearable technology in the form of lifestyle wristbands are also gaining traction, checking in real time the state of your health.

The apps being developed will only become more sophisticated and in tune with user. Rather than just monitor your health these smart wearable technology devices will prompt you to get up and go for a cycle on your bike or alert you to the fact you have an irregular heartbeat.

Insurance companies take note:

Perhaps Health insurers of the future will require policy holders to invest in such devices. This way they could alert the user to a health issue before allowing health issue to progress to a more serious or costly stage for the insurer. This would be a good use of this new wearable technology.

However, if the health insurers do identify a long-term health issue, you could expect your health insurance premium to rise.

Will wearable technology significantly improve our lives?

And what if these devices as they get more sophisticated push the cost of health insurance out of reach for some? Will we see the wealthy people’s health improve as a result of wristband technology and the poor suffer if they cannot afford the wristband and apps?

What ever the case, these new wearable technology accessories are not going to go away. There are so many questions to be answered, and so much more to come in the next few years. We feel that we are on the brink of a wearable technology revolution. Watch this space here for more news.
